After taking time to cool down and remind myself that a no PR day is perfectly okay, I attacked this morning with a vengeance. I was out for blood (not really though, I wasn’t going for any maxes. Mostly I just had a new playlist on spotify that got me all excited.)
This morning was pretty standard; short and sweet, just how I like it. I’ve realized that when my strength portions have been taking any longer than an hour and a half I start to get a bit bored and my motivation slips a little bit. I still finish the workout, obviously, but not with the same fire as I started with. Shit happens.
Power clean: 60%x3, 65%x3, 70%x3, 75%x3, 80%x3, ” 3 rep max”
Power jerk: 60%x3, 65%x3, 70%x3, 75%x3, 80%x3, ” 3 rep max”
Overhead squat: 60%x3, 65%x3, 70%x3, 75%x3, 80%x3, ” 3 rep max”
I kept “3 rep max” in quotes because I didn’t go for a 3rep max today. When I got to 80%, if I felt good, I added weight and tried for 3. If that effort felt decently heavy, then I’d leave it at that. I’m tired of trying to force PR’s to happen and becoming extremely frustrated when they don’t. Today I hit my old 1RM power clean for an easy triple. Could I have done more? Possibly. But as Coach Burgener says, only 1 PR a day. Move on.
Weight for jerk and overhead squats stayed the same. My overhead squats were a bit shaky and actually quite ugly, so I am going to make a conscious effort to improve my midline stability. Mobility isn’t an issue for me, and I work on strength every day, so with some time and hard work that overhead squat will go up. Patience.
Then, not for time, I did this fun little guy. No idea how many rounds or anything I did, I basically just stopped when I felt that my form started to suck.

Nice burner. Pullups after cleans and dubs completely sucked. I’ve been doing the butterfly lately and my shoulders are completely torched.
