The title of this post perfectly describes the past 5 days of training…. all upper body crap and some movements that I haven’t done since before I started Crossfit (not saying they’re not helpful, but they’re not exactly exciting..)

On Friday morning, I woke up with the world’s tightest and most uncomfortable feeling in my MCL/hamstring area on my left leg. Frankly, I was super pissed off. Just the night before, I did some serious clean and jerking and knocked out a killer met-con. Came home, stuffed my face, and felt fine. I woke up and literally as if I had ran a marathon overnight, my left leg was tight as could be.

Typically, I’d keep training through all this crap like I said before. But MCLs are serious shit. Tearing my ACL was one of the worst days of my life and the recovery was painful, long, and overall sucked total ass. If I ever have to go through anything like that again… I don’t even know what I’d do! Especially since this tightness is on the same leg that I tore my ACL, it makes me especially nervous.

I’ve been doing some serious upper body stuff. I’ve been doing a ton of dumbbell military press, barbell military press, single arm DB press, dumbbell bench press, barbell bench press, pendlay rows, bar dips… and of course, about 500 million pullups and handstand pushups. Today I did something sort of fun though.

4 minute amrap:

20 second airdyne sprint

10 pushups (chest must bump floor!)

8 toes to bar

Rest 90 seconds, then…

6 minute amrap:

20 second airdyne sprint

3 strict handstand pushups

5 strict pullups

This was fun! Surprisingly gassing and heavy on the lungs… I love the airdyne, and that’s not sarcasm. It’s a great alternative when you can’t really do anything else. After my met con, I did some seated-weighted- bamboo stick-overhead press. Basically, it’s a big huge bamboo bar with kettlebells hanging from each end by resistance bands. It’s wobbly, unstable, and definitely different! I super setted these puppies with chin ups (I haven’t used the word “super setted” since before Crossfit…)

I was starting to feel better in my leg until after my workout today, when it got insanely tight. At this rate, there’s a good chance I won’t be able to compete next weekend. Which completely sucks. I haven’t snatched/cleaned in a week now and I hate it… but I guess I’d rather take time off now than push it too hard and have to take months off.

Make things work!
