Ha! I love N*sync. On that same note, how do you pronounce “meme”? Is it “me-me” or “meem”? I’ve heard mixed reviews. Oh well. I say it like me-me, because it’s more fun that way. I digress.

Today I woke up with my neck hurting a lot and my knee killing me. I decided that instead of doing full snatches I’d practice some power snatching to save the knee… and because I absolutely hate power snatching. Plus, because I’ve been watching so many videos/reading so many articles, I’ve been wanting to basically start from the ground up with snatching. That is, pretend like I don’t have a max and like I haven’t learned how to snatch. Now, that’s easier said than done; trying to erase everything I’ve already learned is pretty frickin’ hard… especially when you’re trying to put a substantial amount of weight overhead, gripping it and ripping it isn’t going to cut it. Fixing hundreds (maybe even thousands?!) of incorrect reps that my body has memorized is REALLY, REALLY hard…. and rEALLY REALLY frustrating. But hey man, that’s life sometimes. Here’s what I did today:

Snatch Deadlift + Power Snatch: 70% + of power snatch 1RM, (1+1)x2 — 6-7 sets, adding weight each set.

Snatch Push Press, from floor: 4 sets x 3 reps @ 80%

Front Squat: 3 sets x 2 reps @ 85%

Front Squat + Jerk: Drop weight from previous front squat sets so that you’re at about 70-75% of your 1RM jerk. (1+1)x2 for 2 sets. My knee and shoulder didn’t appreciate this, so I had to stop. Sigh…

Strict Pullups: 5 sets x 5 reps

Toes To Bar: 10-10-10. Focus on speed and efficiency in your kip.

I’m happy to say that something has clicked with me and snatching, however. Yes, I know that I mentioned earlier that I’m starting from the ground up…. which I sort of am. Sometimes it just takes the slightest change in thought to realize what you’ve been doing wrong the entire time…. and while snatching still is probably my most hated thing to do, it is getting better. Little by little. Snatching is hard, man.
